Short answer
A fake Breguet 7147 is a counterfeit copy of the Breguet Classique 7147. Breguet is the only maker of the real watch. Every "1:1" or "first copy" version is an unlicensed product that copies the Breguet name and trademark. In the United States, trafficking in counterfeit watches is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. § 2320.
The genuine reference
The Classique 7147 arrived around 2017. The case is 40 mm across. Breguet sells it in white gold (reference 7147BB) and rose gold (7147BR). The dial is grand feu enamel. Enamel powder is fused to a gold base at about 800 °C, so the surface is glass, not paint. The dial carries printed Arabic numerals, Breguet hands and a small seconds subdial at 5 o'clock. There is no date window.
The movement is the Calibre 502.3 SD. It is hand-wound and visible through a sapphire caseback. Breguet states a power reserve near 45 hours. Breguet has built watches since 1775 and is part of the Swatch Group.
Points that separate real from fake
- Dial surface. Real enamel is glass with depth and a soft sheen. Copies use lacquer or printed metal, which reads flat under a light.
- Subdial position. The real small seconds sits at 5 o'clock. Copies often place it at 6 o'clock.
- Case metal. Real cases are solid 18k gold with Swiss precious metal hallmarks on the caseback. Copies are gold-plated steel.
- Movement. The Calibre 502.3 SD has Geneva stripes, circular graining, polished screws and engraved bridge text. Copies use generic ebauches, sometimes hidden behind a solid caseback.
- Numbers. Case and movement numbers on a real watch match the certificate. Copies reuse one number across many units.
Legal exposure in the US
Importing a counterfeit watch into the United States is barred. U.S. Customs and Border Protection seizes such shipments. Selling a counterfeit watch exposes the seller to criminal charges and to a civil suit from the trademark owner. Penalties under 18 U.S.C. § 2320 reach 10 years in prison and a $2 million fine for an individual.
How to verify a 7147
Take the watch to a Breguet boutique or an authorized dealer. Ask for a movement inspection and a check of the case and movement numbers against Breguet records. An independent watchmaker with a timegrapher can measure rate and amplitude, which shows the grade of the movement. Serial number checks through Breguet are free. Resale prices for the 7147 vary with condition and metal. Confirm the current range with a dealer before you buy.
