Short answer

IW328030 is an IWC Schaffhausen case reference. The format is IW plus six digits. A watch is genuine when its case, dial, movement, and paperwork match the specs IWC publishes for that reference. Reports about a fake IW328030 come down to three checks: caseback engraving, movement, and serial number.

Check the reference against IWC's listing

IWC publishes case diameter, caliber, power reserve, water resistance, and dial options for each reference. Pull that page first. Replica sellers attach real reference numbers to copies, so the number alone proves nothing. Compare the number in the listing with the number engraved on the caseback in the photos.

If the listing has no caseback photo, ask for one. A seller who will not send a caseback photo is a seller to skip.

Caseback engraving

Genuine IWC casebacks show the reference, a serial number, the brand name, and the words Swiss Made. The engraving is cut into the metal. Fakes show shallow laser marking, uneven letter spacing, and thin strokes. Serial numbers that repeat across several listings point to one replica batch.

Movement

Ask a watchmaker to open the case. IWC uses in-house calibers in this line. Copies use stock ETA clones or Chinese automatic movements. The rotor engraving font does not match, and jewel counts differ.

A timing app on a phone reads beat rate. Most IWC automatics run at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz. A reading of 21,600 vph, or 3 Hz, is a warning sign.

Dial, hands, and crystal

Check the date font, index alignment, and lume height. Fakes put lume above the dial surface and use a date wheel with the wrong numeral shape. Genuine IWC pilot watches have anti-reflective coating on both sides of the crystal. That coating shows a blue or purple tint when you tilt the watch under light.

Weight

A steel IWC pilot watch in the 40 mm class weighs about 80 to 100 grams on a leather strap. Copies with brass cases and plating weigh less. A scale is a fast check. It is not proof on its own.

Papers, box, and warranty

IWC ships each watch with a card that lists the reference and the serial. Both must match the caseback. Fake sets use blank cards, or cards with a serial that does not match. IWC posts its warranty terms and registration process on its site.

Price

Used IWC pilot watches trade in the thousands of dollars. A new-in-box listing at 10 to 20 percent of retail is a replica or a scam.

If the watch is fake

Stop payment if the transfer has not cleared. Photograph the caseback, dial, and paperwork. Report the listing to the platform. Keep the messages between you and the seller.
