Short answer
A replica Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch can carry the words "Master Chronometer" on the dial. That print proves nothing. Master Chronometer is a METAS certification of the finished watch, not a label any factory applies at will. Check the movement, the caseback, the subdial layout, and the paperwork against a genuine reference before you trust a claim.
Specs to compare against
The current Moonwatch Professional (reference numbers start with 310.30.42.50) has these numbers:
- Case: 42 mm wide, 13.2 mm thick, 47.5 mm lug to lug
- Lug width: 20 mm
- Movement: Omega caliber 3861, manual wind, 21,600 vph
- Power reserve: 50 hours
- Water resistance: 50 m

Measure those numbers with calipers. A case that runs 14 mm thick, or lugs that sit at 21 mm, do not match.
Checks a fake fails
METAS test card
Omega ships a Master Chronometer card with the test number for that watch. Sellers print copies of the card. A card alone does not prove the watch is genuine, and a missing card does not prove it is fake. Treat the card as one data point.
Movement
The caliber 3861 runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour. Many replicas use a Valjoux 7750 base at 28,800 vph, or a Seagull ST19. A timegrapher reading of 28,800 vph rules the watch out. The sapphire version shows the movement through the caseback, so ask for a photo of the balance and bridges. No photo of the movement means no purchase.
Subdials
The Moonwatch has three subdials at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock: a 30-minute counter, a 12-hour counter, and small seconds. A date window, or a layout that shifts the subdials toward the center, marks a non-Moonwatch movement inside a Moonwatch case.
Bezel and dial
The 2021 bezel insert has a dot over 90 and a dot diagonal to 70. Cheap inserts place the dot beside 90. The 2021 dial uses an applied metal Omega logo. Earlier references used printed paint. Print quality on the dial text, the lume fill, and the hand finishing vary by replica tier.
Price signals
- Genuine steel Moonwatch: about $7,000 to $8,500 in the US, by crystal and bracelet. Omega updates prices each year, so confirm at an authorized dealer.
- Low-grade replicas: $60 to $150
- Mid-grade replicas: $250 to $450
- Claimed super clones: $500 to $800
Boxes, hang tags, and papers come with replicas. None of that changes the movement inside the case.
Inspection steps
- Run the chronograph. Start, stop, and reset. The seconds hand should snap back to zero.
- Read the rate on a timegrapher. 21,600 vph matches. 28,800 vph does not.
- Measure the case and lugs with calipers.
- Compare the bezel dot position against a genuine photo.
- For the sapphire version, ask for a clear photo of the caseback and movement.
- Have a watchmaker open the case when the sale is local.
What is unknown
Replica factories change movements and cases without notice. A check that works on one batch may not apply to the next. Photos from a listing are not a substitute for handling the watch. An Omega service center or a qualified watchmaker can confirm a movement by serial number and finish.
